The NORMAN network developed a specifically designed to support the harmonised optimisation and validation of measurement methods for monitoring of emerging contaminants.

In order to test the developed protocols and the ability of the network to meet European demands for monitoring of emerging pollutants, various were undertaken, each of them addressing a different class of emerging substances of particular environmental interest today.

The NORMAN protocol for methods validation is currently under negotiation as CEN level (CEN TC 230 - Water Analysis) for its implementation in European Standardisation on its way to becoming a CEN Technical Specification (CEN TS, NWIP at CEN TC 230).
